We made it to 2022! The Spanner Big Band have secured a gig at The Arsenal Tavern on Sunday 30th January. Sunday? That’s weird… It’s a long, long story but the long and short of it is that the band cannot compete with Sky Sport any more… even though the footy pubs at The Arsenal […]

Spannerman…
…seething with some kind of unfathomable angst, combining complex metal-esque experimentalism with uniquely effected sax. Simultaneously aggressive and sophisticated but also supremely dance-able and fun. (Ex Webcore, Ringo Of Roses, Thunderdogs, Circus Archaos, Headjam…)… psychedelic prog…
Dan Spanner Trio
Veteran sax player, band leader and performer, Dan Spanner and his trio play psychedelic jazz with pedal-affected sax and ‘out there’ poetry… not really like anything else …
Gong, King Crimson…
“Dan Spanner. Tim Burton got it all from him!!”
“Astoundingly captivating organised noise!”
“Frontman, Dan Spanner, reminiscent of Iggy Pop, Ian Dury…”
“Hendrix on sax with nutty psychedelic poetry and lyrics”
“Jazz punk psych funk…”
Eddy Whirls
Experimental soundscapes with saxes, clarinets, Moog synthesizer and voice.
Spannerman
I’ve known Spannerman for decades and have really close social ties to the band. Played on the same bill up as them waaaaaaaay back when and co-habited with ex band members as well as playing in other line-ups with ex band members. For my money Dan Spanner is one of this country’s most accomplished and progressive composers, saxophonists, singers and writers. If any of you get a chance to see them do it. They’re up there with The Hendrix Experience and King Crimson. I kid you not. Thanks to Simon Kimani Deards for booking em for The Cosmic Puffin. Good call…
Spanner Jazz Punks
Conceived in the cauldron of demon frontman Dan Spanner’s maniacal mind, Spanner Jazz Punks are the troublesome offspring of a frenetic marriage between sleazy punk jazz and psychedelic performance art. With their roots in the legendary French chainsaw-juggling circus company Archaos, Spanner Jazz Punks have been steeped in a brew of psychedelic rock, ska, gypsy, klezmer and big band swing, and come out kicking, screaming and spinning yarns of quixotic, tragic, heroic ne’er-do-well adventure.
